Language is a system of sounds and words. Humans share thoughts with it. It has design features. Arbitrariness means no link between word and thing. Duality means small sounds make big meanings. Displacement talks of past and future.
Linguistics is the science of language. It studies rules, not just words. Learn five features with examples.
